Always avoided lists, but this year I’ve decided to feature twenty of my favourite tunes from 2011. All that’s required is that they were released this year and I found myself going to back to them again and again. It’s a strange mix, but then there’s no accounting for taste. As the title suggests, the tracks listed aren’t in any particular order, just as I remember them.

M83.Ft Zola Jesus – Intro

The Cast of Cheers (ace name) are a four piece from Dublin, Ireland. They make the sort of math rock that brings to mind Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party and more recently Everything Everything and Foals. They gave away their first album ‘Chariots’ (which they recorded in 3 days!) for free on their bandcamp page and it hit 150k downloads and a nomination for the Choice Music Award, in Ireland. Add to this their track ‘Goose’ inclusion on Kitsune Maison 12 and you can safely say that The Cast of Cheers are ‘hot shit’.

Their debut single is ‘Family’. Have a listen below. Their real debut album will be out in 2012

Three new remixes from one of Squeakysneaker’s fave new producers. iO has been busy on the remix front lately and each one of these babies display his usual subtlety and deft touch.

First up is the punchy bass rework of Warrior One’s 90′s sounding jungle track ‘Fyah’, featuring dnb favourite Ayah Marar. It’s out Jan 9th on Black Butter Records

 iO has been collaborating with US producer Kastle and the UK’s LO:TEK , with the latter project due to drop at the start of next year. There’s also going to be a debut solo EP, so keep your ears primed.

We first featured THaF Records in October last year and tomorrow they’re celebrating their first birthday (ish). In the last year they’ve introduced us to some great electro tuneage, by the likes of JSK, Bullwack, The Hats, Footjam, Silent H!, Jackiroqs and Mike Hindle. To celebrate they’ve put together’ Movement’, a twenty two track compilation of unreleased THaF tracks.
