I heard the riff to this tune the other day in The Weeknd’s ‘House of Balloons’ and to my shame I couldn’t think what the hell it was. I mean it’s one of my favourite Siouxsie and the Banshees tracks and my mind was a gaping blank.
Imagine my surprise then, when I heard this version of Happy House by Belgian trio Shindu. This version is a beach party by comparison, keeping the riff, but replacing the guitar of the original with a steel drum, shaking its bikini clad ass down the shoreline. Despite the party atmosphere though, the lyrics retain the ‘sarcastic’ tones of Siouxsie’s vocal. We’re singing about happy things, but we’re not really very happy at all. We’re all quite sane!
Shindu – Happy House EP Minimix
Happy House was produced by Moonlight Matters aka Sebastiaan Vandevoorde and the EP has remixes from Herr Styler, JBAG, Midnight Savari, Polydor and Martians.

Vivienne Westwood has taste. You may think this is a glaringly obvious statement, after close to forty years wowing the fashion world with her provocative designs, from the early punk days to her presence at this years shows in Paris, London, Milan, New York and London. To stay relevant for so long is hard to do in any field, but in the fickle fashion world, it takes someone with rare vision and a finger firmly attached to the ‘pulse’ to survive.
So how does Viv ensure her continuing relevance? Well, of course the frocks have got to be spot on for a start, but you can’t just throw a model down the catwalk without an achingly cool soundtrack to which they can shake their hips. Who you gonna call? Jerry Bouthier of course!

Jerry, Vivienne and JBAG’s other half Andrea Gorgerino have been collaborating on show soundtracks for few years now and if you can find them, our there in the interweb, they’re all great little mixes in their own right. Grab this one while it’s about. More Jerry Bouthier to come. So keep your eyes peeled x
I used to think that you can judge how good or bad your new year was going to be by how your NYE went. It’s probably superstitious twaddle (it is), but I always liked to imagine a night of sex, debauchery, booze and drugs would be mirrored through the next twelve months. This is why I used to cram as many of these things into one night as I could without getting arrested.
Times have changed and this new years eve I was in bed with a really bad cold, at half past nine. I struggled to neck a bottle of wine and though you could say that Lemsip is a drug of sorts, it was hardly very rock and roll.
So if I imposed my previous theory onto 2011 then you could assume it’s going to be really crap. But you’d be wrong! Oh yes you would…
You’d be wrong for two reasons – 1.Because my theory is rubbish and was just a good excuse to get off my tets and fall about and 2. Because seven days into the new year and we’ve already got some fresh JBAG for you. Next year I’m going to bed at half past…six…
To keep us focused on the release of ‘X Ray Sex’ at the end of January, JBAG have been in touch with a new exclusive remix and a best of 2010 mix – a gift for the new year. Listening to the mix below you realise why Kitsune always get JBAG to do the Maison minimixes. Pure seamless class

If that’s not enough JBAG (and it isn’t) here’s a mix Jerry Bouthier did for Kitsune this christmas.
All in all, a good start to year – Oui? X Ray Sex is out on January 24th on Continental Records
Like Pavlov’s dogs anything Kitsune makes me froth a little bit at the mouth. It’s a problem I have, what can I do?
Add a little JBAG and I’m drooling all over the place (my keyboard is covered in the stuff as I type). I first fell in love with Jbag (Jerry Bouthier & Andrea Gorgerino) when they remixed S’Xpress’s ‘Stupid Litte Girls’ a couple of years back. It’s a perfect slab of electro goodness, from a time when slabs of electro goodness seemed to fall from the sky on an hourly basis. Before Black Eyed Peas and every other auto tuned bastard realised that making it ‘lectro would get you top of the chart.
They’ve remixed Kylie, Sparks and Ladyhawke, but you probably know them best from their association with Kitsune (yeah, another tissue please) and their Kitsune Maison minimixes. The minimixes themselves are works of genius, managing as they do to blend the often disparate sounds of the compliations into one coherent whole.
January 2011 sees them release their first single ‘X Ray Sex’. It is of course ace. Featuring the vocal talents of ex-Ping Pong Bitches, Louise Prey, it’s an uplifting smash, with timely chimes and disco claps and other JBAG goodness. Love it, love it, love it. You can download the original mix for free at Kitsune Journal and I’ve got an exclusive remix by Jolie Cherie for download
