“Scottish bastards glued my hands together, hasn’t he?”

When I was a kid you used to get vinyl albums consisting entirely of sound effects. Most of them were BBC produced, full of squeaking doors, wind through trees and a sudden blood curdling shrieks. There were also compilations of birdsong, so you could sit in your front room and imagine you were in a forest, surrounded by woodpeckers. It’s suprisingly relaxing and of course you avoid actually being outdoors, bitten by bugs, mud all up your back.

I only mention this as Jarvis Cocker has gone and produced an album for the National Trust that, when I listened to it earlier, brought back all those memorys. It’s an album of sound effects, recorded in and around National Trust properties, like Belton House and Quarry Bank Mill. It’s really good, even though I was expecting…I don’t really know what I was expecting. With Jarvis you never know what you’re going to get I suppose and this really is just an album of sounds. It’s well worth a listen, not all at once; that would be a bit mental, but as a tool to unwind. You can download the whole thing for free here

Tiesto and Diplo – strange one this. Each does his own thing very well and I would never have put them together in a million years. Listening to it you imagine that Tiesto baggsied the top and Diplo took the bottom. It’s a great collaboration really, with some trancey rises before (and I’m guessing) Diplo handles the drop.

My taste for bangers reinvigorated I found this Sick Boy remix of Motor’s ‘Kick It’ on RCDRD LBL. I love Motor, constantly killing it and far too underrated.

Scissor Sisters are back and though I have to admit I wasn’t a huge fan of their first albums, their new stuff sounds great. Produced by Stuart Price the album, ‘Night Work’ is out in June. There are some great remixes of ‘Invisible Light’ about (the Stuart Price one especially), but this one by Siriusmo is my fave at the moment.

I was going to do a Reset! post, but I haven’t got the time or inclination at the mo. I’ll come back to them later, but for now their remix of Cassius’s 99 is funky as fuck
