Found myself in the mood for some DJ Yoda tonight. Happens sometimes, when I’m not in the right frame of mind for anything more involving.
Yoda is pretty much the cleverest cut up/turntablist around and has been for more than a decade. His live show, where he combines tunes and visuals are nothing short of genius. It’s the sort of gig where you’re not exactly going to be dancing all night, but you will be smiling through its entirety. I’ve seen him a couple of times and I just remember standing there, loving it, thinking ‘How did he possibly think to put that with that?’. He’s been voted one of the top 10 DJs to see before you die and why not. You could just go and see him because he’s good, of course, but if you need any extra incentive, I suppose impending death will do.
‘Unthugged’ was released in 2003, Yoda working with Dan Greenpeace on a flawlessly mixed album of hip hop, soul and samples.
