I was hunting around, doing some research on the history of Acid House, when I came upon this from Charanjit Singh. Recorded in 1982 it features all the kit you would expect on your average acid track, 808, 303 and Jupiter 8 keyboard. But it’s the date that’s fascinating, considering Phuture’s ‘Acid Trax’ is deemed to be the first true acid tune and that didn’t get heard until 1987.
Singh himself was a Bollywood soundtrack writer and all of the ten tracks on the album are centuries old Indian Raga’s, reinterpreted with a disco backing. 10 Raga’s To A Disco Beat was re-released in 2010 on Bombay Connection and you can buy it here. You really should too, because even if you take away the historical importance of the tunes, it’s a very good record.
